Wish is most commonly used in hypothetical situations (greeting ad expresions of goddwill), the opposite of the current reality or which are impossible. A wish expresses a desire for something that is different from the present reality, for example:
• We wish you a merry Christmas. • Wish me luck on my exam. • I wish I had studied harder. (In reality, I didn’t study hard, and now I regret it). |
• I hope you can come on Saturday. |
