Class Planning

Grade: 4th Grade Elementary School
Topic: Narrative of past and present events
Objective: Reflect on the present, past, and future tenses to narrate events

Session 1: Understanding the Tenses (45 minutes)

  1. Warm-up activity: Introduce the topic by asking students to share a recent and a past event that happened to them. Discuss the differences between the two events.

  2. Introduction to tenses: Present the three tenses - present, past, and future - through examples and explanations. Highlight the differences in verb forms, time expressions, and use of each tense.

  3. Group activity: Divide students into small groups and provide them with flashcards containing sentences written in different tenses. Students work together to sort the sentences and match them with the correct tense.

  4. Whole class discussion: Have each group present their findings and explain their choices. Clarify any misconceptions and provide additional examples if necessary.

Session 2: Practicing Narration (45 minutes)

  1. Review of tenses: Begin the session by briefly reviewing the three tenses covered in the previous session.

  2. Guided practice: Provide students with a short story written in the present tense. Read the story aloud and ask students to identify and highlight the verbs in the present tense.

  3. Pair work: Divide students into pairs and distribute a different short story written in the past tense to each pair. Students take turns reading the story to each other and identifying the verbs in the past tense.

  4. Whole class discussion: Ask students to share their findings and discuss the differences in verb forms between the present and past tenses.

Session 3: Applying the Tens
