Title: Medición y cálculo en diferentes contextos: Distancia de un punto a una recta
Grade: 1st year of Secondary School
Subject: Mathematics
Objective: The student will be able to find the distance from a point to a line and the distance between two parallel lines.
Methodology: Inquiry-Based Learning
Interdisciplinary Problem: Distance from a point to a line
Session 1:
Phase 1: Introduction (10 minutes)
- Engage students by presenting a real-life scenario where finding the distance between a point and a line is important (e.g., measuring the distance from a car to a fence).
- Ask students if they have encountered similar situations and how they would solve them.
- Introduce the objective and the problem to be addressed during this unit.
Phase 2: Development (30 minutes)
- Divide students into small groups and provide each group with a set of manipulatives (rulers, paper, and pencils).
- Instruct students to experiment with different ways to find the distance from a point to a line using the provided materials.
- Encourage students to discuss their findings and share their strategies within their groups.
- Observe and provide guidance as needed.
Phase 3: Closure (10 minutes)
- Bring the class back together and allow each group to share their findings and strategies.
- Summarize the different approaches and highlight the importance of using different methods to solve problems.
- Assign a homework task where students will apply their newfound knowledge to solve a similar problem.
Session 2:
Phase 1: Introduction (10 minutes)
- Review the previous session's learning by asking students to explain their findings and strategies.
- Introduce the concept of parallel lines
