Title: Exploring Different Perspectives

Objective (PDA): Students will be able to read texts on controversial topics and distinguish between opinions and concrete facts.

  1. Warm-up Activity (10 minutes)

  • Begin the class by asking students to brainstorm a list of topics they consider controversial or debatable.

  • Divide students into small groups to discuss their chosen topics and explain why they find them controversial.

  • Facilitate a brief whole-class discussion, where each group shares their topic and reasons.

  1. Introduction to Argumentative Texts (10 minutes)

  • Explain to students that argumentative texts present different perspectives on a topic and aim to persuade the reader.

  • Show examples of argumentative texts from various sources (newspaper articles, blog posts, etc.) and discuss their features.

  • Discuss the importance of distinguishing between opinions and concrete facts in argumentative texts.

  1. Reading and Analyzing Argumentative Texts (15 minutes)

  • Provide students with a selection of argumentative texts on different controversial topics.

  • Instruct students to read the texts individually and underline or highlight the opinions and facts they find.

  • After reading, facilitate a class discussion where students share their findings and discuss the differences between opinions and facts.

  1. Reflection Activity (10 minutes)

  • Ask students to reflect on their own beliefs and opinions regarding one of the controversial topics they read about.

  • Instruct them to write a short paragraph explaining their position and supporting it with at least one concrete fact.

  • Collect and review the paragraphs before the next session.
