Session 1: Introduction to Instructional Texts

• Begin the session by asking students if they have ever followed instructions to do something.


• Discuss with students the purpose of instructional texts and how they help us understand and complete tasks.


• Introduce different types of instructional texts such as recipes, game rules, and craft instructions.


• Show examples of different instructional texts and identify the graphic resources used (diagrams, illustrations, tables, symbols).


• Engage students in a class discussion about the importance of graphic resources in instructional texts.


• Assign students a small group project to find and bring instructional texts from home for the next session.

Session 2: Analyzing Instructional Texts
Duration: 45 minutes

• Recap the previous session and ask students to share the instructional texts they brought from home.


• Divide students into small groups and provide each group with different instructional texts.


• Instruct students to analyze the texts and identify the graphic resources used.


• Facilitate a group discussion where students can share their findings and discuss the purpose of each graphic resource.


• Introduce the concept of origami as an example of an instructional text.


• Show examples of origami instructions and discuss the graphic resources used in them.
