Title: Exploring Notable Lines in Circles

Grade level: 1st year of Secondary School
Subject: Mathematics
Topic: Circumference, Circle, and Sphere

Objective (PDA): Students will identify and draw the notable lines in a circle and understand the relationships between them.

Methodology: Inquiry-Based Learning

Interdisciplinary connection: Problem-solving: Identifying and drawing notable lines in a circle and understanding the relationships between them.

Session 1:

Phase 1: Introduction (10 minutes)

  • Engage students by showing them different circular objects and asking them to identify the lines they can observe.

  • Discuss their observations and introduce the terms "circumference," "circle," and "sphere."

  • Introduce the objective of the lesson.

Phase 2: Development (30 minutes)

  • Divide students into small groups and provide them with circular objects, compasses, and rulers.

  • Ask students to explore the circular objects and identify any notable lines they can find.

  • Encourage students to measure and draw the lines they identify.

  • Circulate the classroom, providing support and guidance as needed.

Phase 3: Closure (10 minutes)

  • Bring the class back together and have each group share their findings.

  • Discuss and summarize the notable lines identified by the students.

  • Introduce the concept of relationships between the lines and briefly discuss them.

Session 2:

Phase 1: Introduction (10 minutes)

  • Review the notable lines identified in the previous session.

  • Introduce the concept of "tangent" and its relationship with a circle.

  • Pose questions to the students, such as "What is a tangent?" and "How can we identify tangents in a circle?"

Phase 2: Development (3
