Title: Suma y resta: Operaciones inversas
Grade: 3rd grade
Duration: 1 session of 45 minutes

Objective: Resolve problem situations related to their context that involve addition of natural numbers up to three digits using the conventional algorithm.

Methodology: Inquiry-based Learning
Interdisciplinary Approach: None

Session 1:

Introduction (10 minutes):

  1. Begin the class by discussing real-life situations that involve addition and subtraction. Ask students to share examples of when they have used addition or subtraction in their everyday lives.

  2. Explain to students that in this class, they will explore the relationship between addition and subtraction.

Exploration (15 minutes):

  1. Divide the students into small groups and provide them with a variety of objects such as counters, blocks, or number cards.

  2. Instruct the groups to create addition and subtraction problems using the objects. Encourage them to use numbers up to three digits.

  3. Allow the students to explore and discuss their problems within their groups.

  4. Circulate among the groups, observing their discussions and providing support as needed.

Explanation (10 minutes):

  1. Bring the students back together as a whole class and facilitate a discussion about the problems they created.

  2. Ask the groups to share their problems and solutions with the rest of the class.

  3. Help the students identify the relationship between addition and subtraction by discussing how the numbers in an addition problem can be rearranged to create a subtraction problem and vice versa.

  4. Introduce the concept of inverse operations and explain that addition and subtraction are inverse operations.

Application (10 minutes):

  1. P
