1. Download the suggested files in the MED sections for students to write shape poems. Make copies for them to work individually.

2. Ask students to describe their house and what their favorite room in it is.

3. Ask students what they do in the bedroom, for example, or in the kitchen, etc.

4. Tell students they are going to write a short poem about their homes.

5. Distribute the worksheet and ask students what that is (a house/home)

6. Elicit from students rhyming words, to go with HOME or HOUSE, and write them on the board. Help with some words if necessary.

7. Write a short sentence to work as the first verse  (I love my home, for example) of a poem students need to write and ask students to give you the second verse using a rhyming word

8. Ask students to be as creative and original to write 2 or 3 more verses.

9. Monitor and offer help as needed.

10. Invite students to read their poems in pairs, then, to another pair.

11. Ask students to color their home poems.
