5. Tell students they are going to work with a longer rhyme about what people do. so get them familiar with the topic by asking them what their parents do.

6. You may want to print the words to the song that are on the same web page and included here as well.

7. Before you play the video, it is suggested that you read the words to the song, the rhymes, aloud for them to trigger listening comprehension first.

8. Play the video and ask students to follow the song and sing if they feel comfortable.

9. Distribute page 1 and ask students to work with vocabulary (exercise 1), then, continue with exercise 2 where students have to match the job with its description. For that purpose, you may ask students to read first the descriptions (right column), help with vocabulary, and match.

10. Play the song again for confirmation.

11. Distribute the second page and ask students to circle the correct answers about job descriptions. If you don't have time to work on this page, give it as homework and check it first thing in the next lesson.

12. Play the song one last time and invite students to join in singing.

13. Play the video and let students look at the story and follow it.

14. Ask students questions about the poem/ story,

  • What did the boy teach the cat?
  • What kinds of things can the cat do?

15. Ask students to find the rhyming words and make a list in their notebooks. Then, compare their lists with other classmates so in case they missed some words, they can complete them and with the help of their classmates feel more comfortable.

1. Have the beam projector ready to show the videos suggested in the MED section.

2. In this session, students are going to work with a story, rhymes, and limericks to help them in practicing reading and phonics.

3. Show the title and the first image with the lady, then, ask students what they think the song is about. “An old lady?” “A fly?” Even when students have heard the song before, or learned it, the practice here will be different so encourage them to participate.

4. You may want to print the words to the song that is on the same web page.

5. Before you play the video, it is suggested that you read the words to the song, the rhymes, aloud for them to trigger listening comprehension first.

6. Play the video and ask students to follow the song and sing if they feel comfortable.

7. Distribute page 1 and ask students to work with vocabulary (exercise 1), then, continue with exercise 2 where students have to order some events in the story.  For that purpose, you may ask students to read first the descriptions (right column), help with vocabulary, and match.

8. Play the song again for confirmation.

9. Distribute the second page and ask students to complete the sentences with a “what”.

10. Students work on the last exercise, draw a picture of what other things the old lady could have swallowed, and share it with the class.

"There was and Old Lady ..."

"There was and Old Lady ..."

11. Tell students they are going to listen to some short poems (limericks) to practice. 3. This video has many different limericks so you may want to decide on the ones you need for this session. These are the ones suggested for this session,

1.       An old man in a tree

2.       An old man on some rocks

3.       An old man and a cow

4.       An old man and a bush

12. Play the video and show the first limerick and make your students feel comfortable with the activity and not to worry about knowing every single word in the limerick.

13. Pause the video and read the limerick again for students to repeat. Then, talk about it, does it make sense?

14. Ask students to copy the limericks in their notebooks and leave some room for them to draw a picture to go with them.

15. Work with the next limericks and try to vary the way you read them the second time.

16. Ask students to work in pairs and read the limericks to each other and have fun.

17. You may also want to ask students to memorize a couple of limericks for the next class and have a limerick competition.
