1. Download the file suggested in the “Materiales Educativos Digitales” section,  and make copies for students.

2. Have the beam projector ready to show the second activity.

3. Review the alphabet in groups of 5, from A to Z, and then from Z to A.

4. Ask students to   name five different places around town they remember and what they can do/buy there, i.e., I /we can buy milk in the supermarket, / books in the bookstore, etc.

5. Distribute the worksheet and do clue #1 (sentence #1) as an example to model the activity.

6. Ask students to work in pairs and listen to you read the clues, then, discuss with their partner what the possible word is and complete the word.

7. Monitor the activity and make sure students are spelling correctly.

8. Teach students how they can ask a question to find out where the can ----, i.e., “Where can you see lots of animals?  At the zoo”.

9. Ask some questions about the class and then. Ask students to ask some questions in their pairs to practice.

10. Tell students they are going to work with a community map and its places.

11. Show the map and draw students’ attention towards the places numbered so they can understand they need to identify them.

12. Point at the vocabulary box underneath the map and invite students to write in their notebooks the name of the places 1-14.

13. When students are finished, ask them to compare their lists of places with other classmates and invite volunteers to come to the front and type their answers.

14.  Continue with exercise 2, read the sentences aloud for students to answer.

15. Write tick or cross as they say and read the sentences as a paragraph for students to identify they are describing the town.

16. Ask the class to copy the paragraph in their notebooks but change the sentences to negative so they have to write another sentence in the affirmative to clarify, for example, “There is one hospital in this town” changes into “There isn’t one hospital…there are two hospitals….”

17. Invite th students to read their paragraph to the class.

1. Have the beam projector ready and a set of speakers to play the song suggested in the  “Materiales Educativos Digitales”.

2. For the second activity, download the file and make copies for students.

3. Ask students how many different places in their ‘colonia’ they can name (elicit bank, supermarket, church, etc.) and they can spell.

4. Write on the board the title of the song in capital letters, “In my town, there are places to go…” and ask students to use some of those places mentioned to complete the sentence.

5. Play the song and draw students’ attention to the subtitles for them to follow.

6. Play the song a second time, without sound, and sing along by clapping and dancing to the rhythm.

7. Ask students to write in their notebooks the lyrics of the song and use the places they have in their ‘colonias’ instead.

8. Invite volunteers to sing the song using their personal information.

9. Tell students they are going to talk about a special building in their area, ‘colonia’ or city.

10. Distribute the worksheet and use the questions to get more information from students about the building. You may want to adapt the questions and ask about the color of the building, the locations and other simple features for students to describe.

11. Ask students to follow the instructions and draw and color that building.

12. Monitor the activity and offer help as needed.

13. Invite students to sit with two more students and talk about the building. You may want to model the way to do it, “ This is----, it’s on----, next to / close to / on   (street),etc.”

14. Display the students’ drawings around the classroom for everybody to learn about different buildings.
