Inicio 00:05 1. Download the worksheet “Parts of a sentence” suggested in the “Recursos” section and make photocopies for each student of both pages in advance. 2. Write a sentence on the board to remind students about the two main parts of a sentence (subject and predicate) and tell them that a sentence is a group of words that express a complete thought or idea. Desarrollo 00:25 3. Tell students the subject and the predicate are formed by specific parts. 4. Give away the photocopies and read the introduction. 5. Have volunteers read each section and ask them for more examples of each one. Clarify any doubt if necessary.

Cierre 00:30 6. Focus students’ attention on the sentence at the bottom of the second page and ask them to underline or highlight each part with a different color. 7. Have students work in groups of three and ask them to write at least 5 sentences containing all the different parts they just read about in each of them. Allow them to use the dictionary if necessary. 8. Once they finish, have some volunteers come to the board to write their examples.

Evaluación Assess students' oral and written expression levels: • Students are able to identify and classify the parts of a sentence. • Students are able to read information about sentences clearly and fluently. • Students are able to write simple sentences that make sense. • Students have enough vocabulary that allows them to build complete and meaningful sentences using all the parts of a sentence.

Tell students that a “Diphthong is a vowel sound produced when two vowels are paired together” and have them give you some examples in Spanish, for them to see the similarities. 4. Project the “Chart #6 Diphthongs” on the board using the projector for all students to see it. 5. Read each of the examples aloud and have students read them after you. 6. Ask students to copy the chart in their notebooks. Once students finish, have them add two more examples to each category.

Cierre 00:25 7. Have students work in pairs and make flashcards using their examples. Walk around to monitor their work. 8. Have students exchange their flashcards with another pair of students and practice the diphthongs.

Evaluación Assess students' oral and written expression levels: • Students are able to identify the different diphthongs in English. • Students are able to recognize the sound each diphthong produces. • Students are able to write examples and to classify them according to their different sound and spelling.

Inicio 00:05 1. Have the “Practice Materials for Diphthongs (AmE)” ready on your computer or tablet to show it to students. 2. Write on the board the following diphthongs: “ei, ai, au, oi, ou” and an example for each: “ray, ride, how, boy, no” and have students practice the different sounds of diphthongs aloud. Ask students to choose 2 words from each of the sounds with different spellings and have them write them in their notebooks. 5. Ask students to illustrate the words they chose on small index cards and to write the word under the illustration.

Cierre 00:15 6. Once students finish, ask them to get in pairs and have them play memory with the two decks of cards they made. 7. Have students play in pairs, trios or in teams of four for them to practice different words as well as their spelling.

Evaluación Assess students' reading and oral expression levels: • Students are able to identify diphthongs with different spelling by their sound. • Students are able to pronounce correctly different types of diphthongs. • Students are able to make their own set of cards to play memory and to practice diphthongs.
