Desarrollo | 00:35 | 2. Ask the Ss if they know how to ask for directions or how to give them. What type of vocabulary do they need? They need to know the prepositions, the adverbs of place and the cardinal points, of course, but they also need to know some vocabulary about places, like the names of some important buildings (post office, police station, school, bank, playground, park, library, etc.) since these are used extensively to give directions. Print flashcards of the most representative buildingsand practice the vocabulary with the Ss. Have Sswrite the vocabulary words and draw a simple picture showing what each word means. 3. Ss also need to know some useful phrases like: • to take ….street… • to turn right/left on… • to keep going (straight) to… • to go up/down until you get to... Write on the board some examples and practice them with the Ss. |

Desarrollo | 00:40 | 2. Organize the Ss in pairs. Tell the Ss to go to the page “Map Routes & Directions Game”. Link in the “recursos” section. They will use one tablet per team. Ask them to solve all four exercises. Give them some 10 minutes. Walk around the classroom, helping Ss as necessary.Encourage Ss to give feedback to each other. After the 10 minutes project the exercise on the board and solve them with the whole class. During this revision period use the vocabulary on the second link. 3. Tell the Ss to open the link “Asking about and giving directions 1” and check with them the vocabulary. Have some Ss ask about directions in Londond city and others give the answers. Then project the image on the screen and go over the symbols. Ask the Ss if they can think of other instructions that are not on the board, i.e. go around the roundabout, through the tunnel, under the bridge etc. Make a list on the board. Have the Ss copy the list, write a sentence using each instruction and make appropriate drawings to demonstrate they fully understand the meanings. Practice a few sentences with the Ss and tell them to study at home. |
